Translation: Turn Off
अपना ग़म लेके कहीं और न जाया जाए
घर में बिखरी हुई चीज़ों को सजाया जाए
apna gham leke kaheen aur na jaaya jaaye
ghar mein bikhri hui cheezon ko sajaaya jaaye
Why seek solace from one’s grief elsewhere, why do that
Let’s put things in order ourselves, let’s do that
–
जिन चराग़ों को हवाओं का कोई ख़ौफ़ नहीं
उन चराग़ों को हवाओं से बचाया जाए
jin charaaghon ko havaaon ka koyi khauf nahin
un charaaghon ko havaaon se bachaaya jaaye
Those lamps that are not fearful of strong winds
They must be protected from the winds, let’s do that
–
क्या हुआ शहर को कुछ भी तो दिखाई दे कहीं
यूँ किया जाए कभी ख़ुद को रुलाया जाए
kya hua shehar ko kuchh bhi to dikhaai de kahin
yoon kiya jaaye kabhi khud ko rulaaya jaaye
What has come over this town, it all seems a blur
Let’s shed a few tears and see clearly again, let’s do that
–
बाग़ में जाने के आदाब हुआ करते हैं
किसी तितली को न फूलों से उड़ाया जाए
baagh mein jaane ke aadaab hua karte hain
kisi titli ko na phoolon se udaaya jaaye
Keep in mind the etiquette while passing through a garden
Don’t scare the butterflies off the blossoms, don’t do that
–
ख़ुदकुशी करने की हिम्मत नहीं होती सब में
और कुछ दिन अभी औरों को सताया जाए
khudkushi karne ki himmat naheen hoti sab mein
aur kuchh din abhi auron ko sataaya jaaye
Not everyone has the courage to destroy oneself, so
Let’s trouble others for a few days more, let’s do that
–
घर से मस्जिद है बहुत दूर चलो यूँ कर लें
किसी रोते हुए बच्चे को हँसाया जाए
ghar se masjid hai bahut door chalo yoon kar lein
kisi rote huye bachche ko hansaaya jaaye
The masjid is far away from home, so why not (instead)
Let’s make a weeping child smile, let’s do that
